A YEAR AT THE FARM (continued)

September and October
Growth is beginning to slow down now so we can concentrate on other things like mulching up all of last year's Christmas trees and creating a lovely woodchip (see left).

The mulch is spread over the soil to create a weed-suppressing layer. It also helps to prevent soil erosion and compaction from heavy foot traffic in December.

After a few years, the mulch rots down into a lovely crumble that helps to feed the soil. In this manner, if you bring your old Christmas tree back to us in January, it gets completely recycled.

This time of year we also take stock of our trees ready for harvest, and try to make the farm look as tidy as possible!
